Reputation and corporate bottom line: Steinhoff as a case study

Reputation Matters Dec 12th, 11:17
Even though Christo Wiese has taken the helm as the interim CEO and is trying to stabilise the ship through the storm, Steinhoff faces the threat of becoming the biggest bankruptcy in South African corporate history. (Business Times, 10 December 2017).
How does this happen? “It all boils down to lack of internal governance,” says Regine le Roux, Managing Director of Reputation Matters. “Reputations are ruined when values are negotiated, ethics are compromised and leadership actions are questionable. Having authorities investigating irregularities, and by associating the words ‘senior executive’ with tax evasion, documentary forgery, and fraud, is never a good combination.”

“If you keep your nose clean, follow policies and procedures and adhere to governance structures your integrity as a company […]

Be a great leader

Marion Barraud for HBR
One of the most difficult transitions for leaders to make is the shift from doing to leading. As a new manager you can get away with holding on to work. Peers and bosses may even admire your willingness to keep “rolling up your sleeves” to execute tactical assignments. But as your responsibilities become more complex, the difference between an effective leader and a super-sized individual contributor with a leader’s title is painfully evident.

In the short term you may have the stamina to get up earlier, stay later, and out-work the demands you face. But the inverse equation of shrinking resources and increasing demands will eventually catch up to you, and at that point how you involve others sets the ceiling of your leadership impact. The upper limit of what’s possible will increase only with each collaborator you empower to contribute their best work to your shared priorities. […]

Business leadership

It’s amazing how many business leaders can’t answer the very simple questions’

Dudu Msomi, founder CEO of Busara Leadership Partners, cuts to the chase regarding business strategy.

Sonya & John Culverwell                                8 August 2017

Dudu Msomi is passionate about business leadership development, but in her world, coaching a company’s leaders often transmutes into facilitating business strategy, team building, mentoring and a number of other disciplines. This occurs, according to Msomi, because very often leaders think that they know what the problem is in their organisation – mistakenly. In her view, this misconception is often born out of an inability to interrogate a company’s status quo with the simplest of questions.

Which in itself makes Msomi unusual as a leadership consultant; because she doesn’t believe in confusing the issues and needlessly inflating a situation with theories, models and other intellectual theorising.

In this short video extracted from her full length interview with Moneyweb, Msomi discusses her […]

Revenue needs to be driven with great customer experience

Revenue needs to be driven with great customer experience

29 MARCH 2017 – 12:23 PM LYNETTE DICEY

According to a recent Forrester Report, titled “Drive Revenue with Great Customer Experience, 2017” many customer experience (CX) professions are challenged when it comes to finding a connection between CX and growing revenue.

The report analysed revenue potential from improving CX in 13 industries that Forrester covers in its CX Index and provides data that CX professionals can use to build a case for investing in CX. In every industry analysed Forrester saw positive revenue potential from improving CX.

According to the report, there are four industry-specific factors that shape CX revenue models.

The first is to find out what the barriers are to switching from one service provider to another. For example, if customers are charged for switching, they’re unlikely to move, despite poor customer experience.

The second factor is relationship value. Forrester’s model looks at the size and […]

Five factors of successful franchisor leadership

Five factors of successful franchisor leadership

In addition to being concerned about the match between a franchisee and a franchisor, in terms of psychometric testing, franchisors should review their own leadership and management capabilities, as becoming a franchisor changes the nature of a business.
